    What is domain renewal?
You can renew the validity period of your domain name at any time once you have purchased it. Let me explain this with an example. Suppose, you bought www.example.com for a period of one year. You can renew the validity of your domain name at any time during this period of one year plus a small grace period (usually 0-40 days). This renewal will increment your ownership of the domain name by the number of renewal years you have purchased. Taking the same example further, if you have purchased the domain name in March 2008 for one year and you renew it for another 3 years, your domain name will be available to you till March 2012.

I have renewed my domain name using "My Account", but why is it showing the Pending status?
This is because domain name renewal takes some time (1-24 hour) to process. In rare cases where your domain name is not renewed during this period, you will be given a full refund of your money.

What is a domain name life cycle?
In general, your domain name goes through the following life cycle right from the date of purchase:

Again explained with an example for a .com tld (Date of purchase taken as 7th May 2007 with validity of 1 year).

    • Domain term starts: 7th May 2007
    • Domain term ends: 7th May 2008
    • Domain term Grace period starts: 8th May 2008
    • Domain term Grace period ends: 40 days from the start of the grace period
    • Domain term redemption period starts: Starts at the end of the grace period
    • Domain term redemption period ends: Ends after 30 days from the start of the grace period
    • Available for public purchase again: Domain term end + grace period + redemption period

    General caveats:

Different domain tlds (com, info, biz, etc.) have different grace and redemption periods.

    • .info has 15 days of grace period
    • .biz has 0 days of grace period
    • Once the domain name goes to redemption period, you would not be able to renew it again. You can only make a fresh purchase if it is publically available after the specified periods mentioned above. Please be cautioned that the domain name may be taken by some one else during the redemption period using backorder mechanism. We strongly suggest you to renew your domain name before the term expiry or before the grace period ends.
    • There is a period of two days between term expiry and grace period where you would not be able to renew your domain names. You can renew your domain once this period of 48 hour expires.

You mentioned grace period. Please explain?
Yes, please go to the domain life cycle FAQ to understand Grace Period. Once your domain name enters the grace period, your domain will be parked at resellerclub (www.resellerclub.com). Resellerclub is our registrar for domain name services. You would not be able to do anything except renew it from the limedomains My Account control panel. Your domain settings will be restored once you renew it.

What is this period of two days - between expiry and grace period? Why can't I renew my domain name during this period?
This is a 48 hour period between term expiry and grace period. You would not be able to renew your domain names during this period as some dns changes between various registries take place during these hours, for an expired domain.

Isn't the grace period for common tlds (domains) 45 days?
Yes, but deduct the 2 days (explained above) and last 3 days of grace period (which limedomains keeps as buffer period, should manual intervention be required during renewal), you get 40 effective days of grace period. Please also note that total grace period is different for different set of tlds (refer to domain name life cycle general caveats).

You also mentioned redemption period. Please explain?
This is a period which you should avoid getting your domain name into. During this period only the original registrar (in our case ResellerClub) can reassign this domain name to someone. Registrars generally do this to serve backorders.

If any domain expires, what happens to my email account associated with that domain name?
Your email account gets suspended once your domain name expires. Please note that here suspension means deletion of any aliases/auto-responders/forwards you might have set in your mail account. Your mails will be backed up during the grace period though (subject to your email plan itself does not expire during this period). Once you renew your domain name, your mail accounts will start working again with your previous mails restored. You will have to set the aliases/forwards/auto-responders again though.

What is Email Plan Renewal then?
Email plans have separate life cycle. It just happens that the email accounts of a plan which are configured (yes, a plan can have many email accounts or boxes) with a particular domain name get affected by the domain life cycle. For e.g., if you have configured your email plan with two email accounts say admin@abc.com and admin@xyz.com, then if abc.com expires only admin@abc.com gets suspended. On another note, if an email plan expires all the email accounts of the plan (irrespective of the fact whether their respective domain names have expired or not) are suspended (after the email plans term expiry) or deleted (after the email plan grace period expiration). Please visit the email renewal section of this faq to get more details on this.

My domain name grace period has expired. What can I do now?
Once the grace period expires, the domain name goes into redemption period (0-30 days, varies for different tlds). You can check the availability of the domain name from limedomains web site after the redemption period. If available, you have to make a fresh purchase of the domain name.
